(FR/EN) LoL, open source software, a serious matter (2019)

François Zaïdi, Thierry Bayoud, Léa Deneuville

Software is the basis of information technology, a tool that is inseparable from our modern societies. A mobile phone, a home alarm system, even a fridge or a car have all become computerised objects. This software is made up of lines of code, known as source code. However, since the 1970s, this computer code has been hidden by manufacturers as a source of profit.

At a time when the world’s five biggest market capitalisations are Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft, are people aware of the impact that their use of digital technology has on their lives?

What if our software use compromised our personal security? And what about our governments?
